Nokukhanya Dlamini, a native of the township of Esikhawiniin Empangeni, Kwa-Zulu Natal, has always been passionate about performing. Her early years were graced with her vocal talents shining through, often leading school assemblies with her powerful voice, drawing admiration from her peers. Gospel music has been the cornerstone of Nokukhanya’s musical journey. In themid-90s, she became part of a Gospel ensemble that performed at various events in Esikhawini, catching the attention of renowned figures such as Jabu Hlongwane and the late Sihle Kunene. Her breakthrough arrived at a Gospel festival in her hometown, where Mthunzi Namba, from Family Factory, recognized her talent, paving the way for her inclusion in the legendary Gospel group. Nokukhanya’s exceptional voice propelled her into the South African music scene, leading to collaborations with industry icons Sibongile Khumalo and Gloria Bosman.. Transitioning into jazz, Nokukhanya’s musical odyssey prompted her to collaborate with the accomplished Themba Mkhize for her Jazz album, “Tribute to You”. Evidence of her unyielding commitment to her roots is demonstrated through her various musical concepts, such as “NOKUKHANYA’s GOSPEL ACCORDING TOJAZZ” and “NOKUKHANYA sings the music of the LEGENDS”. Through the seen deavors, she continues to weave a seamless bond between her heritage and her musical expression.
